Varial Kickflip
OK all you little flip monkeys. The Mighty Fletcher has returned. This another clip from about 2 years ago, when the 12 year old Fletcher already had the Varial Flip down.

The varial kickflip is a combination of the backside pop shoveit (coming soon) and the ollie kickflip. You will want to know both of these moves before learning this one.

The board does a 180 under you, while it also flips. Pretty cool.

Check out the video clip here.

Rolling forward, Fletcher moves his rear foot into backside pop shove-it position. His front foot is a little further back than in a normal pop shove-it, because he will need to use it to flick the board into a flip.

In frame 2, he starts the pop. You can see that the rear foot is popping the tail heavily on the toe side, as the front foot begins to drag up the board and flick.

Frame 3 shows the rear foot sweeping backward as it pops the tail. This is what makes to board to a 180 varial. The front foot is flicking hard, and the board has started flipping.

In frames 4 through 6, Fletcher flicks the board, his front foot extends out in classic ollie kickflip style. The board does a 180 underneath him, and had completed 1/2 of it's flip.

Note: Pay attention to Fletcher's body position. His center of gravity (right below the navel) stays right above the middle of the board. His body is ALWAYS CENTERED OVER THE MIDDLE OF THE BOARD. This is critical to making most tricks. It also means you must commit to the trick.

As the board completes it's 180 and flip, Fletcher is right above it, and is ready to catch it. His front foot comes right back into position -- which is a result of his centered body position. If you pay attention to staying centered over your board, your foot will come back on top of the board naturally.

As the board completes it's movement, Fletcher smacks it down like he's been doing it for 15 years !

Check out the position of his feet on landing -- right above the trucks. Perfect -- no danger of snapping the board there.

Killer !!!!
