Heel Flip

Here's another one from 2 years ago... The Heel Flip is an ollie kickflip, in which you flip the board the opposite direction -- you flick your front foot to the toe side, which makes it look like you are flipping the board with your heel.

If you are having trouble with a normal ollie kickflip, you might try this. A lot of people find this one easier to learn first.

Special thanks to the Mighty Fletcher for the demo!

Check out the video clip here.

In frame 1, Fletcher sets up for the trick. He is in a normal ollie position, except that his front foot has the toes slightly over the edge of the board (his front heel is more toward the middle of the board). Fletcher says this helps. He also says the at this point, as you get ready to snap the ollie, you want to "put a lot of pressure" on that foot.

As he takes of, Fletcher is already dragging his front foot up the board.

In frame 3, the tail makes contact with the ground, giving the move a good pop.

In frame 4, you can see that Fletcher is kicking his front foot to the toe side. He drags his foot up, and actually flicks it off the side of the tail.

In these frames, Fletcher continues the flick. In frame 6, you can see that the board is a little more than halfway through the flip. Also notice that the rear foot is up high, and out of the way, allowing the board to flip. As soon as he popped the tail, Fletcher gets that rear foot up.

In frames 7 and 8, The board continues the flip, and Fletcher is preparing to catch the board and land. Notice that he is right over th board at all times. A lot of time, when learning ollie flip tricks, people tend to jump off to one side or the other. If you want to make these moves, you have to stay on top of the board. It should be flipping right under you.

In Frames 9 and 10, Fletcher uses his rear foot to catch the board and stop its flip. He slaps it back down and lands solidly. Nice...
