Bean Plant

I've been getting a lot of requests for oldschool/freestyle stuff lately, so here, as promised weeks ago, is the Bean Plant.

I'm not sure why it is called a Bean Plant. I've always assumed it is because it is a Frontside Boneless with a Lean Air grab -- Boneless Lean -- Bean... get it? This is a good move for ditches, but you can also do it on ramps. It is similar the the No-Comply grab, except that you 1)don't do this over a parking block and 2)it is a wall trick.

I'm doing the move on a Gravity Team 39 longboard, with Indy trucks and 90a Gravity Street-G wheels. However, you can do this quite well on a normal street board.

Check out the video clip here.

Ride up the wall nice and fast, and carve frontside. As you approach the top, reach down low with your front hand. This will get it in position to grab the board for the trick.

Now, as you get closer to the top, step off with your front foot, and snap the tail down, sort of like a no-comply.

Frame 3 -- as the board pops up, I catch it for the grab. You catch it on the heel side. At the same time, I am taking a quick step/jump with my front foot. In frame 4, I continue to use my lead hand to guide the board up.

Important Point: For maximum smoothness, you don't really want to stall on the planted foot. You simply step to the ground and immediately jump.

In frames 5 and 6, I boost through the move. This is the fun part.

Once you have jumped, it is time to get your front foot back on. So just put it back on! Now land it. Make sure you have your feet spaced properly for your board. Don't land with a foot on the very tip of the tail -- your board will break! Your back foot should be on top of the rear truck, or slightly behind it. Bend your knees to absorb the shock.

OK -- have fun. Skate Hard!!
